|
Peri-Peri is a very hot and pungent variety of the capsicum chili pepper brought to West Africa by the 15th century Portuguese traders who gave it this Portuguese name. Fresh red pods are 2-3 times hotter than the green fruit. Dried pods are 10 times hotter. Peri-Peri is used in spice blends and mixes. It is used sparingly as a substitute for cayenne pepper.
